Last night I was talking about how life can be mundane and boring at times, and for many people this is true most of the time. I find that people who live this way might not have a mentor who can share life together, whether it is spiritual life or career life. This morning I am going to meet up with someone who is part of "Social Media Shepherds", a collective of social networking and analytic experts who also love Jesus and want to help influence the world for good through their area of expertise.
I find that while I have learned a great deal in my short 25 years of life, I still have a great deal more to learn. I have a good foundation of knowledge, but I need wisdom on how to take my skills to the next level. Since I don't have the time to sit in front of a computer 24 hrs a day (though it seems like I do anyway), I prefer the personal interactions with someone who is very knowledgeable in my field who can guide me to the right resources and direct my efforts to be the most effective. I think everyone should have a professional mentor as well as a spiritual mentor. And if you are more advanced in years, it would be advantageous to BE a mentor to someone in your area of expertise.
If you are a mentor or if you have a mentor you want to share about please comment. Thanks for reading. Have a blessed day!

Letting the melodies wash over me
Sometimes life gets mundane and boring and void of some beautiful melodies. What is needed is some overwhelmingly powerful notes strung together with such grace that words cannot possibly do it justice. Well, tonight I am working for a heating and air conditioning company called Abel Onsite, working on their website and such while I have no connection with the other employees of the company. I only go in to the shop once a week for an hour in the morning because I also work full time for Crown College in the Marketing and Communication departments doing social media, website updates, photography and video production...it's a full plate. While I love doing each and every one of these things, it's crazy trying to do all of them.
Anyway, tonight I was working for Abel Onsite while listening to my favorite group on iTunes and just had to stop and let the melodies wash over me. I stopped typing. I stopped clicking my mouse. I stopped looking at the pixels on my iMac screen. I just shut down the part of my brain that stresses about getting things done, pleasing people, time management, etc. and I just focused on absorbing the music. It's so freeing to do this for a minute or two. It does so much in the way of relaxing your nerves (not that I'm the least bit of a nervous person). However, I do need to get back to working on Abel's website. I'll talk to ya'll later. Hope you liked my momentary Southern Drawl.

Building My Own Website
It's about time I build my own portfolio website. Over the past 5 years or so, I have been stockpiling a lot of good portfolio pieces to display to future employers. This is been in the back of my mind for a year or two and I finally got around to doing it...unfortunately, I stayed up until 1:20am this morning researching and setting up a domain with a web hosting company (much to my wife's chagrin). At any rate, my portfolio should be live in the next few days at www.jakewattenphul.com. Have a great day everyone!

Lunch breaks and a new post
I'm on lunch break with my wife and I really enjoy being able to come home each day for lunch. That's all. It's been a year since I first created and posted to this blog. I guess I'll try to get back into blogging.

First Blog Ever...Can I hear a drumb roll, please.
This is a test, this is only a test. I will have time later to blog more, but for now this is all I've got and it's pretty insignificant. So, if anyone reads this at all, please give me grace. :)
